Room Parents play a key role in supporting teachers and coordinating classroom events. Signing up is easy! Just select the option to be a Room Parent when you register for PTO membership, or email us directly at SHRSDPTO@gmail.com to express your interest. We’ll follow up with next steps and support you along the way!

 

Being a room parent is a wonderful way to engage with your child's school community. Here are some general instructions and tips to help you succeed in this role:

 

  • Understand Your Role
    • Support the teacher: Assist the teacher in organizing classroom activities and events.
    • Communication Liaison: Act as a bridge between parents and the teacher, sharing important information and updates.
    • Event Planning: Help coordinate class parties, field trips and other special activities.
  • Establish Communication
    • Create a Contact List: Gather emails and contact information from your homeroom teacher.
    • Write a welcome email introducing yourself to the class.
    • Communicate with parents via email to coordinate classroom events.
    • Be sure to have messages translated and be sure to always BCC when emailing the entire class. Also please CC the classroom teacher on all communications to keep them in the loop.
    • Make sure you provide updates to the classroom on important upcoming events.
  • Plan Activities
    • Classroom Events: Carve out a time to meet with your classroom teacher to discuss events planned for the year.
    • Volunteer Opportunities: Coordinate volunteers for classroom help using SignUpGenius.
  • Foster a Positive Environment
    • Encourage Inclusivity: Make sure all parents feel welcome to contribute and participate.
    • Celebrate Achievements: Acknowledge and celebrate both student and parent contributions to the classroom.
  • Have Fun!
    • Enjoy the experience and create lasting memories for the students and parents alike.
